Application of Novel Intelligence Approaches for Sustainable Supply Chains

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Ecological considerations must be incorporated into economic processes, and this is represented by the issue of sustainable development (SD). The aim of SD is to generate a logical environment where development is challenged to enhance the quality of all aspects of life, in accordance with the planet’s natural resources, and to reduce over-consumption, waste, and the omission of future generations.

One of the key issues is the sustainability of our current lifestyle, and whether the current level of required resources is feasible to be passed on to future generations. Applying SD to industry is vital. A variety of optimization problems have been developed to determine appropriate, eligible, and optimal solutions for industries to fulfill the requirements of SD. Moreover, different solution techniques and tools have been widely utilized and designed to treat these complex problems. Exact, heuristic, meta-heuristic, hybrid, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based techniques are among the most applicable. In the future, almost all aspects of human daily life will be influenced by the advancement of these tools, and so the development of efficient solution techniques is essential.

This Special Issue aims to collect research that highlights the role of operations research (OR) and engineering in multidisciplinary fields across mathematical programming and optimization. Emphasis is on the impact, depth, and originality of novel concepts, methods, and observations in using novel techniques. We welcome both original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supply chain network design considering environmental aspects
  • Supply chain network design considering social aspects
  • Sustainable supply chain management in high-tech industries
  • Closed-loop supply chain network design
  • Optimizing a sustainable supply chain using novel meta-heuristic algorithms
  • Production and distribution systems management with a sustainable development approach
  • Municipal waste collection supply chains with a sustainable development approach
  • Application of approximate solution methods in supply chain optimization
  • Application of artificial neural networks in sustainable supply chain planning
  • Application of machine learning in sustainable supply chain planning
  • Application of decision tree analysis in sustainable supply chain planning
  • Application of fuzzy neural systems in sustainable supply chain planning
