Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Cancer Prevention and Therapy

Description

Despite the significant achievements in cancer prevention and treatment over the past 50 years, satisfactory therapeutic outcomes are still limited, and cancer incidence and mortality are still on the rise. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) including traditional medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, and practices (Yoga, Qigong, etc.) plays an important role in cancer wars and has gained increasing acceptance and popularity. As an adjuvant cancer therapy, has been reported to enhance the efficacy of both chemo- and radiotherapy and to help reduce adverse effects of each. However, the biological significance of CAM still needs more scientific and clinical data proving its efficacy and safety. Knowledge and better understanding of action will lead to the development of successful therapies and provide better care to patients.

Therefore, we encourage investigators to contribute original research papers and review papers which are related to the investigation of CAM on prevention and therapy of cancer. We are particularly interested in articles clarifying traditional medicines and/or Ayurvedic medicine with efficacy enhancing and toxicity reducing of chemotherapy, as well as investigation of their biological mechanisms.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Systematic review on CAM on cancer prevention and therapies of a specific subject
  • Research and evaluation of CAM for cancer prevention and therapy using cell and animal models or clinical trial
  • Advanced molecular mechanism associated with CAM on prevention and therapies of cancer
  • Discovery and testing of novel and effective compounds or composition derived from CAM for cancer prevention/treatment
  • Modern technology and novel strategies for research on CAM with efficacy enhancing and toxicity reducing of chemotherapy
  • Therapeutic applications of practices (Yoga, Qigong, etc.) for cancer patients

Note: All herbal medicine/preparations, extracts, and combination of medicinal components used in experiments need to be analyzed for quality control with fingerprint chromatogram or other methods.
