Hyaluronidase in Clinical Isolates of Propionibacterium acnes

(b) Standard curve used to measure hyaluronidase concentration. Hyaluronic acid will bind with albumin and form a white precipitate when acidified. When hyaluronidase is present, it digests hyaluronic acid, and the hyaluronic acid cannot bind with albumin and precipitate. Decreased precipitation is measured as increased light transmission and, therefore, a lower OD540 reading.
