Some Recent Developments in Applied Functional Analysis
Description
Most of the rich notions and methods in functional analysis, such as Schauder bases, (sub)differential calculus, monotone (multi)functions, or optimization, have wide ranging applications in many different problems and, if not, have arisen naturally in applied situations. Some of them apparently fall outside its scope, others involve new formulations motivated by the dramatic expansion of computational techniques and cover the theoretical and numerical study of PDEs and integral equations, inverse problems or mathematical finance, just to name a few. In turn, many of these issues are leading to new developments in this theory. This gives some idea of the intensive research activity in this vast area of modern mathematics.
This special issue will focus, on the one hand, on the exchange of ideas among researchers working both in abstract functional analysis and its applications and, on the other hand, on choosing some of the most important developments in this large field of modern mathematics, with a particular emphasis on the following potential topics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Numerical methods for partial differential equations developed in a functional analysis theoretical framework
- Schauder bases and basic sequences and wavelets
- Inverse problems involving functional analysis techniques
- Numerical methods for integral or integrodifferential equations with a functional analysis setting
- Variational problems and their numerical methods
- Optimization in Banach spaces
- Mathematical finance and Banach space theory
