New and Emerging Therapies for Osteoporosis

Description

Osteoporosis is a common skeletal disease with serious clinical and economic consequences. There are excellent clinical tools for the diagnosis of osteoporosis and assessment of fracture risk. Cost-effective therapeutic agents to reduce the burden of osteoporotic fractures are widely available. However, most patients with osteoporosis and high fracture risk are not being diagnosed or treated, and many of those who start treatment do not take it correctly or for a sufficient length of time to benefit from therapy.

This will be a special issue on new and emerging therapies for osteoporosis that may address current unmet needs regarding efficacy, safety, compliance, persistence, or cost-effectiveness of therapy. This will provide an international stage for presenting data on the efficacy, safety, and potential clinical implications of studies of pharmacological agents in the management of osteoporosis. We invite authors to present original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing effort in the understanding and developing new therapies for osteoporosis:

  • SERMs
  • SARMs
  • Cathepsin K inhibitors
  • RANKL inhibitors
  • Antisclerostin therapy
  • Dkk-1 inhibitors
  • Combination therapy (sequential, concurrent, cyclic)
  • New dosing forms and delivery systems
  • Calcilytics
  • Activin and integrin inhibitors
  • Other novel treatments

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/josteo/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
