Thyroid Hormones and Their Receptors: From Development to Disease

Description

Thyroid hormone (TH) has a fundamental role in the development, growth, and metabolic homeostasis in all vertebrates by affecting the expression of variety of genes. In consequence, an altered thyroid status affects many organs and systems. TH action is mediated mainly by the Thyroid hormone nuclear Receptors (TR) which belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors.

Given the rapidly accumulating data on the pleiotropic functions of the TH and TR, the aim of this special issue is to summarize the most recent advances in this field. We invite investigators to submit original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the function of the thyroid hormone and its receptors in development, growth, metabolism, and homeostasis. Moreover, we are also interested in reviews focusing on pathologies either linked to altered thyroid status or to gene alterations that modify hormone action. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Tissue-specific and generalized function of TH and/or TRs
  • TH-TR in development: invertebrate and vertebrate
  • Genetic alteration associated with thyroid related pathologies

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jtr/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
