Autoimmune Thyroid Disorders
Description
Autoimmune disorders of the thyroid (Graves' disease, thyroiditis, neonatal Graves' disease, transient neonatal hypothyroidism) are common. Recent work has begun to unravel the genetic and environmental (endocrine disruptors) risk factors for autoimmune thyroid diseases and their pathophysiology. Nevertheless, the optimal treatment, long-term impact on health and development, potential associations with thyroid neoplasia including nodules and cancers, and potential involvement in thyroid embryogenesis are debated. Especially lacking are data unique to children with autoimmune thyroid disease.
We particularly take interest in manuscripts that report the relevance of genetic and environmental associations, the role of inflammatory mediators especially in obesity, and relationships between thyroid embryogenesis and thyroid autoimmunity. Reviews that summarize clinical treatments, outcomes, and features that predict response to treatment especially in children are welcome. Moreover, manuscripts that deal with optimal or timeliness of treatment are of interest. Main topics include but are not limited to:
- Genetic associations with autoimmune thyroid diseases
- Potential roles for endocrine disruptors and autoimmune thyroid disease
- Association between thyroid neoplasia and autoimmune thyroid diseases
- Role of iodine in autoimmune thyroid diseases
- Treatment of autoimmune thyroid diseases
- Natural history and long-term outcome of autoimmune thyroid diseases
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jtr/guidelines/.
