Innovation and Sustainability in New Product Development and Supply Chain Management

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

A product supply chain is a supply chain related to a specific product or project. Supply chain management based on product supply chain is the systematic management of the whole process of product supply chain operation driven by the customer demand of specific products. Increased competition, customer requirements, and environmental challenges lead to the search for innovative and sustainable products. Many firms have incorporated sustainability into their product supply chain management (PSCM) strategies via different innovation methods. Both scholars and practitioners have begun to pay attention to issues, such as sustainable product design and development, sustainable supply chain management, reverse logistics, and new digital technologies for sustainability.

However, sustainable PSCM may incur additional costs and affect firm innovation. As a result, further research on how to incorporate sustainability in PSCM is necessary. New frameworks, processes, and methods are also needed to balance innovation and sustainability. Furthermore, with the development of digital technologies (such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain, cloud computing, digital twins, and the Internet of Things), firms have adopted digital technologies to increase the efficiency of their PSCM processes. It is necessary to explore the effect of deploying such technologies on firms’ sustainability performance of PSCM.

This Special Issue aims to explore new directions in sustainable PSCM research. It aims to provide novel guidance for sustainability researchers and broaden the perspectives of environmental-related researchers.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Mathematical algorithms for influence analysis of sustainable product supply chain performance
  • Mathematical algorithms for application of digital technologies (such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain, cloud computing, digital twins, and the Internet of Things) to PSCM
  • Mathematical algorithms for sustainable innovation practices in PSCM and sustainability performance evaluation for PSCM
  • Sustainable product/service design framework, technologies, and case studies
  • Data-driven new sustainable product development
  • Mathematical algorithms for Failure mode and effect analysis in sustainable PSCM
  • Mathematical algorithms for decision making in managing innovation and sustainability in PSCM
  • Human-centric product/service design technologies, and case studies
