Passive Safety Systems in Advanced PWRs

Call for Papers

Passive safety systems have been widely applied to advanced water-cooled reactors, to enhance the safety of nuclear power plants. The ambitious program of the nuclear power development in China requires reactor concepts with high safety level. For the near term and medium term, the Chinese government decided for advanced pressurized water reactors with an extensive usage of passive safety systems. This special issue is comprised of selected, full-length versions of papers presented at the International Workshop on Passive Safety Systems in Advanced PWRs (IPASS) (http://nsse.sjtu.edu.cn/IPASS2008). The aim of the workshop is to provide a platform for the International Nuclear Community to exchange research results and design experience on the passive safety systems applied to advanced pressurized water reactors (PWRs). Another goal is to enhance the contact and collaboration between the Chinese research institutions and international partners. In addition, the workshop aims to give the Chinese Nuclear Community and Chinese government authorities an insight into the actual research and design status and future research needs in the passive safety system of advanced PWRs.

This workshop covers (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • Safety injection systems
  • Decay heat removal systems
  • Passive containment cooling systems
  • Passive systems for severe accident mitigation
  • Assessment and application of numerical tools
  • Single effect and integral verification experiments
  • Failure assessment of passive systems in safety and risk analyses

Papers are invited from experts working in areas mentioned above for publication in the special issue.

Authors should follow the Science and Technology of Nuclear Installations manuscript format described at the journal site http://www.hindawi.com/journals/stni/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/, according to the following timetable:
